Dale L. McDonnell Soft Pastel Artist

McDonnell utilizes soft pastels for his paintings with under coats of acrylic and pumice, he then utilizes an archival varnish to fix the painting and often mounts the painting onto a board. Dale’s use of nontraditional techniques through the manipulation of pastel, acrylic and pumice brings variety and texture to his paintings.
Dale lives off the grid on a small mesa west of Madrid (south of Santa Fe). “The serenity and beauty of the landscape of New Mexico and the west provide continuous inspiration for my work”. Dale’s paintings are based on photos that he has taken throughout the southwest and througout the world.
Dale’s paintings can be seen at the Conley Gallery in Madrid, New Mexico and some of his Irish paintings can be seen at the Old Town Celtic Gallery in Old Town Albuquerque, New Mexico. Dale is also an active member of the Santa Fe Society of Artists and shows on many weekends at the outdoor show just of the historic plaza in Downtown Santa Fe (see calendar for dates of shows).
